Friday News Roundup: Attack of the Nones and the Jedis!

NEWSFrom the depths of the sea….a tidal wave of nones and jedis!

Get it? No? Oh well.  (It’s a reference to the 1957 cult film “Attack of the Crab Monsters”).

Friday News Roundup: A bit of all that


It was one of those weeks. Lots of interesting headlines, but no sweeping themes or trends. So, here’s a bit of all that.

Friday News Roundup: Muslim good? Islam bad?

NEWSCoinciding with the 8th anniversary of 9/11, the PEW Forum on Religion & Public Life released a survey finding that Americans believe Muslims face more discrimination within the U.S. than any other religious group. According to the national study conducted in August, 58% of Americans said there was “a lot” of discrimination against Muslims, far more than say the same about Jews, evangelical Christians, atheists or Mormons. Friday News Roundup: Obama’s iftar is a hit

NEWSWe’re halfway through Ramadan, the month-long period of fasting that is meant to teach Muslims patience, modesty and spirituality. Fasts begin at sunrise and are broken at sunset with the evening meal known as iftar. Iftar is a time of celebration, where Muslims socialize and eat with family, friends and community members (who are not necessarily Muslim), letting loose and chowing down after a tough day of fasting. Back to School

It’s that time again! September is upon us, summer is dwindling, the cicadas are out and educators from all over NYC and the US have begun planning for the 2009-2010 school year.  We here at Tanenbaum have a few wishes for our educators for the upcoming school year.
