I agree there shouldn't be such proclamations, but have you read the National Day of Prayer proclamations issued by governors (copies are posted on the NDP Task Force site).
So many are so bland and generic they couldn't possibly offend unless you wanted them to be pro-Christian.

And a handful go to lengths to be inclusive of all religions and merely recognize a truth - many Americans find comfort in praying to a higher being.

As a member of Tanenbaum Center advisory boards on religion and conflict resolution almost since its founding, I am heartbroken to learn of Adam Solomon's tragically premature death. He embodied the best of the Abrahamic-Judeo values of selfless generosity and care for the stranger. I mourn with his wife, Vicki, and four children and with Georgette Bennett, Joyce Dubensky, the Tanenbaum board and entire family.

Adam's legacy will inspire the Tanenbaum Center to even greater levels of peacemaking and inter-faith peace.

Knowing and working with Adam at the Tanenbaum Center was truly an experience I will cherish for many years. He was a gentlemen. I will miss his vision of peace through religious tolerance and understanding. He understood the complexity of the issues which surrond using religion as a tool to try to acheive peace in this world. May his memory and his ideals live on in the work of the Tanenbaum Center.

Good piece on socially responsible investing (SRI)! I've been following SRI and faith-based investing for about forty years. I've seen it grow from the absolute fringes of the investing world to the mainstream arena of today.

However, the big bottleneck for such investing has always been the investment industry itself, dominated by individuals whose main values are status and greed. Surveys such as ones by MMA Praxis and many others have always shown 70-90% of investors want to invest in SRI or faith-based investment products.

Thanks, April! I unfortunately had to cancel my full workshop because of airport delays and cancellations, and I wish I had been able to spend more time at the conference. I look forward to interacting with your group more in the future!
